Drum Tuition

[vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1653509915441{padding-top: 10px !important;}”]Bespoke, private drum lessons – one to one drum tutoring and group drum lessons & percussion workshops – in person & online.
I have taught many students from the Rockschool and Trinity music syllabus from Grade 1 to 8. I also work through song approach, drum fills, drum grooves, rudiments, various drum exercises and warm up routines.
One of the key books I use when teaching is Tommy Igoe’s Groove Essentials 1.0 and 2.0 which is very beneficial to drummers who want to be versatile players.
I currently teach drums at three London secondary schools and privately to pupils in person or online via Zoom or Skype.
Drop me a line for further information about drum lessons via the contact form.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”775″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center” lazy_loading=”true”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row full_width=”stretch_row” bg_type=”image” parallax_style=”vcpb-default” bg_image_new=”id^68|url^https://danielsmithson.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/BC_Bleed_back.jpg|caption^Drum Tutor London|alt^Drum Tutor London|title^Drum Tutor London|description^null” seperator_enable=”seperator_enable_value” seperator_type=”multi_triangle_seperator” seperator_position=”top_bottom_seperator” css=”.vc_custom_1654022365621{padding-top: 40px !important;padding-bottom: 40px !important;}” el_id=”drum-lessons”][vc_column][vc_row_inner content_placement=”middle” gap=”35″ css=”.vc_custom_1651166841662{padding-top: 30px !important;padding-bottom: 50px !important;}”][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″ css=”.vc_custom_1654031431571{padding-top: 30px !important;padding-right: 30px !important;padding-bottom: 30px !important;padding-left: 30px !important;background-color: rgba(28,28,28,0.85) !important;*background-color: rgb(28,28,28) !important;border-radius: 5px !important;}” offset=”vc_col-md-offset-1 vc_col-md-5 vc_col-sm-offset-0 vc_col-xs-offset-1 vc_col-xs-10″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1650988283834{margin-bottom: 0px !important;padding-bottom: 10px !important;}” el_class=”white”]

I show the process of how to create loop tracks, with input from the students. The three important elements to creating a song are; rhythm, harmony and melody. I then let the students know which instruments are good for each element.
Students apply what they have been taught through playing around with Bandlab. Every 10 minutes I check in on the pupil’s progress whilst providing tips and suggestions on how to improve their tracks. Towards the end participants are then shown how to convert the track to a WAV or mp3 file and are given the opportunity to play their tracks to the class.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_column_text]Main benefit of using Bandlab is that it’s a free software programme that can be used on most smartphones, tablets and laptops. For anyone who has no instruments at home, and does not want to spend loads of money on instruments or DAW software, Bandlab is the programme to use.
The benefits of anyone creating their own tracks are participants will not need to pay a music producer loads of money to do it, they will be able to do it themselves for free. Also you don’t have to play an instrument to make a track you can do it through loops/samples, and the programme has built in instruments to use too.

They were all really excited about taking part and we have done nothing like this in school before so it has really complemented our music curriculum well.
About half the group have continued to develop their tracks at lunchtime in their own time so this demonstrates their commitment to the project.
Of the 12 children in the project 7 are entitled to free school meals and 4 do not have IT access at home so the project did contribute to social change as these children would probably only been able to access programme freely through your workshops.
All the children really enjoyed the project and as you saw all the children were able to produce a track by the end of the project. There were 3 children who are really lacking in confidence in class and it was great to see these children flourish and succeed with Bandlab. I think this growth in confidence also contributes to social change as I hope it contributes to their development as more confident active citizens able to take part in a wider range of community events.
I don’t think any changes are needed to the project. You were very clear with your teaching and the number of sessions was just right to allow the children to complete the track. Giving them a notebook to help them record their ideas and your teaching was a great idea.
Kind regards
Andrew Fullagar
